Captain (ret) Saboe retired in 2025 from a 29-year career in the U.S. Coast Guard. He spent more than 20 years flying search and rescue helicopter missions on the West, East, and Gulf coasts including a deployment to the Arabian Gulf in 2003 with the U.S. Navy and as a first responder in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005 while stationed in New Orleans where he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for helping rescue 143 people. In addition to pilot duties he also served as an aeronautical engineer overseeing field and depot level aircraft maintenance. Following aviation command on the Oregon coast he served as chief of staff in Seattle and concluded his career at the U.S. Northern Command & NORAD in Colorado.
